I was supposed to be good all week except maybe on Halloween, but last night I did something I regret this morning, so yes, I feel the same way as you Brindy and Lisa. Pretty much all I had for dinner last night was 2 biscuits and several cookies. Then finally at about 8:30 I had a tiny bowl of soup because I realized all I had for dinner was biscuit and cookies. I was at my in laws and that is all they were pretty much eating so I joined them. I totally feel fatter this morning. I guess I will just have to work out extra hard and long today. I am trying not to think too much about it, as you should too girls. Just make up for it. I hope you all have a good Halloween and don't gain too much weight after all we have worked so hard. But I do plan on enjoying some junk, just not too much. Well, off to work out now. Kimber

Re: Yuck!
Brindy, I totally know what you mean about wasting all your hard work. I do that too, all the time. Somehow you find a reason to make it okay. But, at least for me, I ALWAYS regret it afterwards. That's what I keep telling myself: it's not worth it b/c you'll just be mad afterwards, and possibly gain back some weight. On the other hand, I think you should be able to have a cookie- any time you want- but only one. That's the hard part though, right? Anyway, I'm totally there with you girl, I know what you mean. Start fresh in the morning! -Lisa
Yuck!
Okay, so I have exercised everyday this week, except today. Tuesday I was craving cookies and gave in to the crave. I ate sooooo many cookies, yuck! I am a little frustrated with myself because I have been, on most days for the last couple weeks, running/walking with a friend in the morning, then I will come home and do one of the workouts from 30 day shred. I feel like I have been working hard, but then I wasted all that time and energy on some stupid cookies! I guess I just need to move on and get over it. Tomorrow is a new day! Actually, today is a new day! Good luck everyone. I really hope I did not gain weight.

Lisa's weigh-in
Sorry this is late. I weighed 141 today, 5 pounds down. I'm really surprised and super happy about it. I'm a little sick, so food hasn't sounded that good and I know that's made a difference. And I've been trying to stay busy with projects. Also, I bought some dried fruit from Trader Joe's that super tastey, low calorie and no added sugar. It's a great snack that seems more like a treat. We have a ward Halloween party on Friday. I don't plan on eating anything there. And I'm drinking 1-2 slimfasts a day. It's nice to not have to think about what I'm going to eat. I just fix it and get out of the kitchen. I'm also snacking on fresh veggies. It sounds like everyone is doing good. And it's so encouraging to keep going when I read that you guys are successful- I don't want to be left behind! So thank you! -Lisa

brindy's weigh, 3 weeks down
I weighed in at 128 today. I am kind of surprised. I am very happy with that. I feel like I worked out pretty hard, but maybe did not make the best diet choices. It was an okay week. I have lost 7 lbs so far. I can tell a little. The thing I am most excited about are the shorts I fit into now and the two pairs of pants and can fit into more comfortably. I still have some other pants in my drawer I would like to be able to wear by Thanksgiving, but we will see.

Weigh In
I weigh in at 126, I lost 1 lb. Total weight lose is 5 lbs for me so far. I still think I can do better, I hope this week isn't too hard with it being Halloween and all. I did really well yesterday at staying away from sweets, I didn't eat any candy or cookies at my in-laws when the kids decorated Halloween cookies. I also got some help with nutrition and weight management for my 4 year old daughter so I am hoping that will help my whole family stay on track and eat healthier. I know I will splurge a little this weekend with it being Halloween but I plan on working out more this week to help with that factor. Hope to hear good reports from all of you too. WE CAN DO IT GIRLS! IT IS WORTH IT! Oh one thing I am doing for me and my daughter is to try to drink a whole glass of water before I eat a meal to help me eat less. So far I think it is helping; it also helps keep us hydrated.

For veggies: I will get pretty board with just raw vegetables, so I would also like some good recipes. However, something I like is steamed veggies. I really like steamed broccoli and cauliflower. I usually will buy the frozen bag because they are already cut up and they are just as good for you as eating fresh. They also are not too expensive. So ya, I will pour a bunch in a small saucepan, put a little water in there, cover and boil them for a minute or so, then let them simmer for 5- 10 mins. It depend on how tender or crisp you like them. After that I drain the water out and salt and pepper them a little. Occasionally, I will put butter on them and let that melt. Personally, I think steamed veggies are pretty good and simple.
Something else that is pretty good is to saute them in a tiny bit of olive oil and add garlic, salt and any other seasoning you like. Rosemary is good. I don't know how well sauteing is with the frozen veggies, but with fresh ones it will be good.
Also, I found out that cooked green beans are really yummy with a little butter and quartered almonds. I usually use canned green beans, because that is quickest.
Hope that helpped!

I just went to a Halloween Party for the kids and I did pretty good about not having any sweets. At our potluck I had all the healthy stuff to eat and didn't get any of the sweets except a tiny tiny bit of Carmel for my apples. If the kids gave me something that they didn't want I just throw it away where I would usually just finish for them. I threw away two cupcakes without frosting that they didn't eat. I volunteered to help with the fishing game so that helped me a lot cuz I didn't go around to the games with my kids and eat the junk. Also someone tried to get me to take some cupcakes home and I didn't take them.
I don't now how to really avoid the carbs though, any suggestions? Bread is my weakness right now. Any suggestions on what is the best bread that is healthy or something that is like that. I do usually have whole wheat, but I always want like the sweet breads and will eat lots of them. I need to find good recipes for veggies cuz I don't really eat them.

100 Calorie Snack
So I bought some Slimfast snacks called "Chocolate Nougat Gone Nuts" and they are so good. It's like a miny candybar- and only 100 calories. If you are craving chocolate, I recommend those. -lisa

Week 2 weigh in
I neither gained or lost weight. It sounds like all of us are in the same boat. However, I think this is normal to loose at first, then have a plateau, and then weight loss will come slow but steady. Time will only tell I guess.

So I lost about 1 lb. this past week. Not such a good week for me. I didn't excercise at all. It has been hard to be motivated to get out in the morning when I am still waking up in the middle of the night to feed a baby.

Kimber's Weigh in
This morning I weighed in at 127. Didn't have the best week, but I guess I did alright. Hope to do better this week.
Meat
Hey,
I was also going to tell you all that the oscar meyer lunch meat slices, the ones that come in the hard plastic container are only 45 calories for 6 slices. Sometimes if I need something to snack on I have a few slices of that. Very satisfying. I think they have the best lunch meat anyway.

Munchies
Something that helps me stay away from snackie foods is to not buy them. Just don't do it. If it is not in your house, then you can't have it. It may be sad not to have ice cream in your freezer the first few weeks, but then you get over it. You can buy your snackie food every once in awhile, but when you do, do not buy a lot, even if it is on sale. It is all about SELF CONTROL.
Make sure you have a long list of things to get done in the day. Whenever you want to snack, think of something else that needs to get done. Don't overwhelm yourself, but distract yourself by doing something else.
These are two ways I stay away from eating all the time. It has actually helped me quite a bit. I actually find myself getting hungry way too often, because I forget to eat. So, I guess be careful and make sure you are getting enough calories to loose weight and stay healthy. You do not want your body to get into survival mode.

Lisa's weigh-in
Hi All,
I weigh 2 oz. more than I did last week. I have to let you know, I totally had a BAD week. I ate whatever I wanted 5 out of the 7 days. I'm shocked that I don't weigh more and I'm disappointed in myself. But I have a game plan. I'm going to start drinking Slimfast and eating the Slimfast snacks. My mom has been doing it for a week and has lost 6 pounds. What do you think? Has anyone ever used it? And what are you guys doing to curb your appetite? Especially for sweets? It's so HARD with all the holiday candy etc. out...

Weigh in
I have not weighed in yet. We do not have a scale, so I have to go to Rendell and Katie's. I was not able to make it over there yesterday, but will try to make it there today. Then I will report.
Oh, and good job ladies! I am really impressed. I hope I lots weight. I feel like I did pretty well with everything. We will see. I am a little bit worried about loosing weight because I am nursing and trying to keep my calories high. I have made good choices about what I am eating though. Can't weight (ha ha) to get on the scale!

So I am down to 174. 2 lbs. isn't too bad I guess, slow and steady wins the race right? I did much better than usual with my eating and excercise, there is room for improvement though. I am feeling better about myself, especially when I choose to eat healthier foods and less sugary foods. Well, good luck girls in week 2!!

weigh-in
I weighed myself this morning and I was down to 143. Three pounds, pretty good. I was hoping for more. But I feel pretty good about it. I'm going to try to stay on track this week. I did really good last week staying away from bad food. I snacked a ton on fresh fruit. And I didn't eat late at night. I also did better when I had stuff on-hand, ready to eat, that I didn't have to preare (like fruit already cut up). I plan on letting myself have some cheat days. My scheduled dates for October are: the 23rd (Jeremy's birthday) and the 31st (Halloween). On these days I am going to let myself indulge in whatever and however many I want. So when I really want something I shouldn't have, I think about those 2 days and know I can have it then.
Here we go week 2!

Fruit Smoothies
So far I have been doing better than my usual self, but that darn sweet tooth of mine just won't leave me alone!! I was really craving ice cream tonight, but I instead made a fruit smoothie and it turned out very yummy, my husband even liked it too! I used frozen strawberries, peaches and blueberries, non-fat plain Greek yogurt (much higher in protein than regular yogurt), 1 packet of truvia natural sweetener, and some V8 Fusion Strawberry-Banana juice. I didn't really measure any of the ingredients, I just used enough to make about two 12 oz smoothies, yum!

1. Kimber Strasser
2. 5'2" and 131 lbs
3. Goal: 120 lbs.
4. Why? I want to look less flabby in the stomach area. I can't lose very much weight when I am nursing and have been done for for about a month so it is time to lose the excess baby weight.
5. Struggles?: I am really bad at dieting and exercising regularly. I always crave sweets and almost always have a supply of some kind of candy, until recently because David (my husband) has gotten after me since we both want to loose weight and our daughter needs to too.
Also I eat fast food at least once a week and get fatty choices. Whenever I am running errands I just want to drive thru somewhere and get something either fatty or sweet. It is just so convenient and even if I am not too hungry I can't help it most of the time.

6. One thing I plan on doing to help achieve my goal is buy healthier foods so that way I can eat healthier at home. I don't plan on necessarily go on a full on diet but just use self control with what I eat and how much, like the other night when I wanted something sweet before bed I had peaches. I have been doing a lot better the last few months with making whole wheat pancakes for breakfast instead of sugar cereals like I used to want and eat and will continue to do so.
Also I am going to resist the temptation of stopping at fast foods while running errands and if we need to stop I will order something healthy instead of fatty or sweet.
Last but not least I plan on working out 3-4 ( if not more) times a week by either an exercise video or jogging or at least walking w/ the kiddos.
So far I have been pretty good this week w/ meeting my goals. I haven't had fast food, exercised 3 days so far and on Tuesday I even had to take dessert to someone who just had a baby so I made cookies and froze the leftovers for lunches. I only ate two of them in almost 4 days. That is an accomplishment for me. Hopefully I do well this weekend because that is another weakness for me, I always seem to pig out more on the weekends and eat unhealthier.

I was at Fred Meyer last night looking for some Halloween costume stuff. It had been a long, somewhat stressful day and I wanted a candybar SO BAD! I almost bought one, but decided not too. I knew if I did, I would cave in every time I wanted chocolate. Instead I bought some pre-cut fruit and an Odwalla juice. It was so good AND in the morning I was super glad that I chose that instead of the candybar. -Lisa
Thursday update
Alright, I have walked for about 15 min. today (I walked to our new house for the home inspection and back :)). I also did level one on the 30 day shred. I feel lighter already. You mine as well hand over the money right now!!

3. Hmmm, this is going to be realy hard, but I am going to try for 10 lbs.
4. I want to loose weight so I feel better about myself and to fit back into my regular clothes.
5. I struggle with the fact that I pretty much have no self control when it comes to eating. I would not say I am a really unhealthy eater, but I do like my sweets. I do have to say, I have not bought ice cream for a little over a month now. Pretty good uh?! However, right now we have some leftover frosting to some cupcakes I made (only ate one and gave the rest away), and frosting on gram crackers is pretty amazing.
I am also having a hard time getting out and exercising, but I think I will buy the DVD workout video Jen and Lisa were talking about. That should help.
6. One thing I plan on doing to achieve my goals is to buy the workout video and weights and take the kids walking durning the day, most days. We use to go on evening walks as a family, we will try and get back into that.
Also, I will try to post my exercise plan for the week and let you all know if I am sticking to it.
Monday I went walk/running with a friend. Tuesday, nothing that I can remember. Today I went on a walk for 20 mins.

2. 5' 10" 176 lbs. (ouch!)
3. Goal: My long term goal is to be at about 155 lbs.(ish) but my goal by Thanksgiving would probably be at least 10 lbs.
4. Why? I feel unhealthy and I don't like how my clothes fit and I know I can do better than I am right now.
5. Struggles? If I could eat sugary foods all the time, any time I wanted to, I probably would. I love treats and desserts, and I lack the "off switch" when eating them.
6. Plans to achieve goal? I plan on exercising (walking/jogging 3-4x a week and some weight resistance). I am not really going to follow any exact "diet" I know the kinds of things I should be eating more or less of. So really it will be portion control and choosing healthier foods. My goal is to try to use food for fuel not just pleasure, but I do not plan on depriving myself!

6. Plans to achieve? Eat mostly raw fruits and veggies, eat less at dinner. Avoid snacking after dinner. Drink more water.
